The Dowager Empress Marie

The Dowager Empress is Anastasia’s grandmother. She and Anastasia are extremely close to one another and she is devastated by the loss of her favorite grandchild. However, armed with the hope that Anastasia may have survived the revolution, Marie offers ten million rubles for the safe return of her granddaughter. Unfortunately, the reward attracts many con artists, who recruit fake Anastasias in the hopes of cheating Marie out of her money, and she has almost given up on her search for Anastasia by the time Vladimir and Dimitri approach her with Anya. In fact, Marie even refuses to meet Anya because she knows that Dimitri is a con artist and suspects Anya of being one as well. However, she changes her mind when Dimitri and Anya show her the music box and necklace that she had given the eight-year-old Anastasia, and she realizes that Anya really is the missing Grand Duchess.
