The Durham Bulls held their 2nd annual "Back To The DAP" game on May 9, 2011. The minor league team hosted the Indianapolis Indians at historic Durham Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. A sold-out crowd watched the Indians beat the Bulls, 7-5.
There were plenty of pre-game festivities, including a fly-over of vintage WW2 biplanes. Singing star Clay Aiken, who is from the local area, performed the National Anthem. Both teams wore vintage uniforms from the 1960's, and many of the jerseys were auctioned for charity. Commemorative bullpen chairs used by the players during the game were available for sale to fans. The Bulls all-time winningest manager Bill Evers threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Durham Athletic Park, known as the DAP, was the Bulls home from 1926 to 1994. The DAP became one of the most famous ballparks in the country when much of the iconic 1988 baseball film "Bull Durham" was filmed there. See Less
