Lafayette College is a private coeducational liberal arts and engineering college located in Easton, Pennsylvania, USA. The school, founded in 1826 by citizens of Easton, first began holding classes in 1832. The founders voted to name the school after General Lafayette, then in a farewell tour of the country, as "a testimony of respect for [his] talents, virtues, and signal services...the great cause of freedom." (initially Marquis de Lafayette until June 1790, when he abolished and permanently renounced both the nobility and aristocratic title). See Less
