Buddhism is a family of beliefs and practices that has distribution throughout the world. While it is usually considered a religion, some scholars have defined religion in ways that exclude it. Another view is that Buddhism is "a family of religions." There are also scholars who claim that Buddhism doesn't have a clearly definable common core. Depending on the source, the number of Buddhists in the world ranges from 230 to 500 million or more, mostly in Asia.
