Zayn Malik, aged 19 (born 12 January 1993) is an English musician, who is currently one-fifth of the ever-popular British boyband, One Direction.
Malik was born in East Bowling, Bradford, in which he returned to, to visit his local HMV with his band members for a signing during their final week on British television show, The X Factor. He is the member of the band who is best-known for his chiselled jawline and his catchy, playful phrase 'Vas Happenin?'. He attended Tong High School and admitted that if he hadn't applied for The X Factor, he would of liked to study English at university and opt for a career in teaching.
It is well-known that Zayn and his fellow band members had all applied as solo contestants, but failed to qualify for the Boys category and consequently, were not through to Judges' houses. The judges (Cowell, Walsh and Scherzinger), after a suggestion by Cowell, put them in a band, qualifying them for the Groups category. See Less
