Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the world.
Launched in 1987, Dragon*Con started out as a project of a science fiction gaming group. Today, the organization meets yearly on Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. 1,500 volunteers staff the convention that hosts approximately 40,000 members at five hotels in downtown Atlanta.
The 4-day event comprises approximately 3500 hours of panels, seminars, demonstrations, and workshops, with over 30 specialized programming tracks that include writing, alternate history, art, anime, gaming, Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature, comic books, costuming, space science, online media, independent film, podcasting, Asian cinema and culture, robotics, scientific skepticism, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, X-Files, Joss Whedon creations, apocalyptic themes, Lord of the Rings, and much more.
