John Robert Wooden (October 14, 1910 – June 4, 2010) was an American basketball coach. He was one of the most revered coaches and beloved by his former players including Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Bill Walton. He was nicknamed the Wizard of Westwood. As a coach, he won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period — including seven in a row — while at UCLA which is a feat unmatched by any other college basketball coach.
