Joanne "Jo" Murray, née Rowling, OBE, FRSL (born 31 July 1965), who is better known as J. K. Rowling, is a British author and film producer.

She is best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. The Harry Potter books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million copies to become the best-selling book series in history, and been basis for a popular Harry Potter films series, in which Rowling had overall approval on the scripts, as well as maintaining creative control by serving as a producer on the final instalment. The Harry Potter films series is the highest-grossing film series of all-time and each film is in the 35 highest-grossing films of all-time.
